About

San Diego Hoops was founded by Mark Jacobson, with the first full season season starting in the fall of 1999. That season started with 5 teams playing a 10 week schedule to, currently, 8 teams playing a 18-week schedule.

Draft System

All teams are chosen by the coaches every year, by a draft system of registered players. This system creates relatively balanced competition (and new friendships). The annual "Draft Party" is the time when coaches select their respective teams that will compete against each other.

The Draft Party usually takes place in late September or early October, at one of our sponsor's establishment, and in conjunction becomes a fundraiser for the year.

Regular Season/Playoffs

The regular season games begin around October through March or early April, followed by the playoffs.

The Hillcrest Classic

On Martin Luther King weekend 2000, San Diego Hoops hosted its first national tournament, The Hillcrest Classic, modeled on tournaments from cities like Chicago, San Francisco and Boston.

Open Gym

The league also boasts an Open Gym throughout the summer until the week before the season (in October), and then resumes after the season ends (in March/April). Open Gym is held wednesday evenings from 7pm to 9pm.

Awards Banquet/Jeremy Parrish Spirit Award

At the end of each season, the league gathers to celebrate at the annual Awards Banquet, where trophies and awards are presented, including the Jeremy Parrish Spirit Award. Also the election of officers for the upcoming season occurs.
